Join us for this fun family weekend on the farm and meet the newest additions to the Heckscher Farm family!
At the SM&NC's Spring on the Farm Festival Weekend, visitors are invited to discover the sights, sounds, and smells that evoke memories of our pastoral heritage. There are lots of little lambs to ooh and ahh over, baby goats to watch prance precociously about their pens, and dozens of ducklings and chicks waddling with their mothers around the 10-acre oasis of rural life in North Stamford.

There will be activities for all ages including crafts, face painting and live music with Jay & Ray. You can turn wool into yarn, plus many other hands-on demonstrations. On Sunday, watch our sheep get their annual shearing and learn about what happens with their woolly coats.

The SM&NC's Heckscher Farm was established in 1955 by community leaders concerned that the post-World War II suburbanization of Connecticut was causing people to lose touch with the area's agricultural roots. A century ago, the farm population in the U.S. was nearly 32 million, or 30.2 percent of the population of 105.7 million. Farm and ranch families now comprise just 2 percent of the U.S. population.

Dotted with barns, a maple sugar house, organic vegetable garden, open pastures, and dozens of farm animals, today Heckscher Farm is a living resource where visitors can observe, understand, and enjoy how a farm works through seasonal weekend festivals and ongoing recreational and educational activities.

There's something for everyone to enjoy at Spring on the Farm: An assortment of local food trucks will be on site, hayride tickets will be available for purchase, and our Museum Galleries will be open, featuring our Powerful yet Fragile: Connecticut's Waterways photography exhibition.

Additionally, works by members of the Loft Artists Association will be featured in "Art on the Meadow" and available for purchase. The Yama Ki Bonsai Society will also present a boutique exhibition of the ancient art of bonsai.
