SM&NC Aligned-with-the-Schools offers educational program options both as components of on-site field trips and as in-school visits. Our programs touch on natural history, physical sciences and social studies. Seasonal favorites include Maple Syrupping, Apple Cidering, Animals in Winter, and Life Cycles. Social studies standards become three-dimensional through our Geography of CT, Early American Life, and Life of Woodland Indians programs. Classes such as Science of Soil, Waterworks, and Animal Adaptations bring science to life for your students. Interactive farm classes, such as Hands-on Heckscher, and Farm Fun embrace the importance of local agriculture and the many resources of our nearby farms.
We can tailor programs to fit specific curriculum standards and can offer special series programs for your group throughout the school year. Our programs feature live animal interactions, hands-on activities, practical applications, and authentic artifacts for an exceptional educational experience. Our Environmental Educators tailor programs to fit group size, student age/ability and season.
For groups that cannot travel to the SM&NC site, many of our most popular programs can come to you! Bring a live animal experience into your classroom by meeting our reptiles, amphibians, insects, chickens, rabbits or goats! Explore the soil, discover CT geology or investigate the importance of our watersheds. Journey through the life cycle of a plant, insect or amphibian without leaving your classroom! Programs listed with a red schoolhouse icon in our School Programs Brochure will travel to you!
